A world of her own.

Unknown yet her own main character.

Written by Saroosh Numair

If a single word had to be used to describe the woman who went by the name of Fiza Qureshi, it would be quirky. Of course, in separate, yet understandable circumstances, one would instead use the words strange, or even happy-go-lucky. It was rare to find a girl who practically exuded positive vibes, that too in a disaster struck world, so really, she was perhaps the oddest yet most interesting of the lot.

Fiza never cared too much about what other people thought of her; always moving forward with her day and completing her tasks regardless of what went on around her. Her stubbornness was probably better described as determination – something that would get her far in life.

She was short. Around 5’3, but always standing straight and despite the height, always feeling on top of the world. She almost never let her deep brown, semi-curly hair grow past her shoulders, ever ready for the next unpredictable haircut, one that would always leave a smile on her round face. Although, there wasn’t much that wouldn’t bring a smile to that face – she had that talent; she could find the silver lining in almost anything. Silver linings that would bring wrinkles to the sides of her glasses-covered eyes when she laughed, exposing her bright and exuberant set of teeth. Seeing her smile would bring you joy by just looking at it.

There were many who didn’t buy into her energetic and friendly personality. Despite the fact that she had a knack for making friends literally anywhere, there were people who thought of her as somewhat naïve. Of course, credit must be given where it is due, it did make sense to think that way, but on closer inspection, it would be clarified. No, Fiza was not naïve. She was happy, yes. Some would say too happy. But she was also the cleverest of the bunch. Her bubbly nature did a lot to hide that about her, but it was true. Fiza was truly gifted.

Her mind worked at a speed and in a way, which would leave the other person in awe. Her mental brilliance was only affirmed when she managed to secure a seat by merit in one of the country’s top medical schools. Fiza was becoming a doctor. Naturally, it was a perfect fit. Not only did she have the brains for it, she also had the soul. She had to have been the kindest person for miles, never turning away a beggar, and never hurting even a fly.

Perhaps her warm and genuine heart meant that people would take advantage of her. And while that held to be possible, Fiza was definitely too smart to put up with anything she knew she didn’t deserve. She really was the whole package. Beautiful, funny, intelligent, chaotic. There was nothing that could come in her way.
